WHO AND WHAT IS DCAC?
Twenty years ago, the Washington DC Aerobics Convention was born to help people advance their careers in fitness education and to develop a community of like-minded fitness professionals. The original founders of the DCAC Fitness Conferences were Charles Little, Suzanne Olson and Mary Lee Herman.
Currently, it is owned and produced by Shannon Elkins and Jamie Nicholls. Our goal has always been to facilitate the launch of new fitness careers, then educate and empower these individuals into successful fitness professionals. When we started in 1991, “Aerobics” was a big industry buzz word. It is now called “Group Exercise”. Each year the event has expanded to include more than Group Exercise. We have added Personal Training, Fitness Business Management, Yoga, Pilates, Sports Training, Aquatics and so much more, including offering certifications to legitimize and qualify individuals choosing fitness as a career. With these changes, we have simply referred to ourselves as DCAC Fitness Education Conferences. Our events are recognized by all the major fitness certification companies and we offer continuing education credits through all of the following agencies: AAAI, ACE, AFAA, NASM, NETA, NSCA, and WITS.
Certification and Continuing Education
DCAC Fitness Conventions will offer several different certification opportunities (for new, or potential fitness professionals) as well as over 20 contact hours worth of continuing education courses (for those that are already certified or just looking for updated fitness education) in 2011.
A series of one and two day pre-conference events will be scheduled on Wednesday and Thursday before the Fitness Education Conference Weekend, each for an additional fee. We will offer over 15 pre-conference events and specialty seminars (i.e. Spinning Orientation, NETA Certifications, Aquatics and many others) that will be worth additional continuing education credits. Pre conference events are an excellent way to earn credits and/ or increase your knowledge in a specialty area.
At the Fitness Education Conference Weekend and Expo you can choose between over 200 different fitness education classes. Your conference registration fee allows you to attend the sessions of your choice that are a part of the weekend conference. Please note, the earlier you register, the more likely that you will receive your first choices for sessions. As a paid attendee, you will receive a certificate of completion to send in to your certifying organization.
In addition to the conference, we will be hosting a FREE Fitness Expo where the latest and greatest fitness products will be available for you to try and buy. Tell your students and clients to join you at the expo for some great shopping.
